Just curious if any of you might chime in on the following:

What is your favorite kind of character arc for your PC's (cliche or not)?
What is the most unique character arc you, or another player, has played?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

My favorite cliche arc is the character that is driven by their past. My current Ley Line Rifter is a good example of a mage seeking power and influence largely due to an overbearing father who wanted him to follow the family footsteps. Everything this character has done since day one has been in direct conflict with his fathers wishes (or what he suspects they'd be).

Most unique character played? Definitely a humanoid chimp alien from a samurai-like caste society with the same sentimentality of the Federation from Star Trek. Ended up being quite the Splugorth Minion slayer. Of course, accquiring a suit of Equestrian Power Armor really helped out.

"Hold your fire, it's a friendly. Wait? WTF?!?!"

One of my favorite character arcs involved an Atlantean Undead Slayer who, despite his noble heritage, couldn't hit a damn thing in combat. He was an utter and complete failure at everything he did. I hear he still broods over the fact that he got bested by a group of CS grunts in an ambush he should have detected.

I looked this up in the BIBLE just for you!

Damn, who knew there was an 11th commandment?

I'd have to say that my favorite character right now is T.R. Monroe, gunslinger. He started out in a short-lived New West game with a group that had a couple of gunslingers, a psi-slinger, and a preacher. He and one of the other slingers (Bennie LeSage) knew each other from back in the day and they all ended up reconvening to try and find a cure for their mentor who turns out was the genetic stock from which each of them was cloned.

Long story short, the original game ended abruptly. However, Monroe was recently incorporated into a Rifts game taking place in the Vampire Kingdoms. He's much older in this new adventure - and by gunslinger standards, ancient. It's about 25 years after the original gunslinger game and Monroe is about 57 years old. He's now a veteran vampire slayer and still as ornery and conflicted about his calling (i.e., killin'). But he's efficient and has great one-liners.

Fun to play for sure.

Bennie was definitely driven by his past as a stone cold bastard killing machine.

That game was fun as hell. Even for it's short run, I would've liked more 'slinging though.

We do need to flesh out their history, don't we?

I reckon we do old boy.

I love characters driven by moral decisions and ones that are shaped by RPing alignment when the choice to play in character is the harder choice.

My favorite character that I've played was a Mega Juicer named Black Tiger who was raised/funded by a Chinese death cult in the ruins of old Chicago.
